Rescue Me ID: 18-06-06-00183Sailor (male)

Bichon Frise Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Needs to be Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Our sweet and beautiful Sailor couldn't be more loving no matter how hard he tried. Sailor is a Poodle/Bichon mix with the sweetest personality and a positive energy that draws people to his side. He was absolutely the shelter favorite...and that means he always had a warm spot in the shelter office and many loving admirers that told him daily how wonderful and special he is. At 6 months old, Sailor is just learning about the world. He's a blank slate that is soaking up the kind words and soft touches that he's experiencing for the first time. At just 7 lbs, Sailor is the perfect size to be a cuddly lap dog...and when it's walk or play ... (Read More)time, he's ready with a wagging tail and a huge smile across his beautiful face. We have so much to learn from the resilience of dogs. While Sailor has had challenging experiences in this world, he is now safe and sound'|never to be cold or hungry again. But with it all'|Sailor doesn't hold a grudge. Sailor is open to all possibilities if treated kindly and with respect. Group training classes with his family and a positive reinforcement trainer would truly serve both Sailor and his people. Together they will learn the skills to have Sailor be a dog that is well-behaved in every situation. It also creates strong bonds of respect between pup and family. Farfel's is happy to provide a list of positive reinforcement (force free) trainers in your area. As is evident in his photos, Sailor has cherry eye. Cherry eye is a disorder of the nicitating membrane (NM), also called the third eyelid, present in the eyes of dogs and cats. Cherry eye is most often seen in young dogs under the age of two. This condition causes the gland to prolapse and protrude from the eye. We've been in contact with our Denver vet to arrange surgery for Sailor (this condition can readily be fixed through surgery). We've helped provide relief to many young dogs with cherry eye...all have gone on to enjoy lives free of this extremely uncomfortable condition. We're happy to cover all costs for this procedure if our Denver vet is used. Sailor is a fun-loving guy who looks ahead to a wonderful future of adventures with his forever family. Somehow Sailor came out of the shelter with high self-esteem. H's a well-adjusted guy who seems to fit in no matter where he lands. Sailor is a guy that loves to come along.....be it to a dog-friendly workplace, on vacation or just socializing'|Sailor would love to be there as a best friend. He has such a pleasant personality and, at 7 lbs, is very portable and low-maintenance. At home, Sailor would be fine with sharing his family with other dogs. As long as they're gentle and very respectful of his smaller size...he enjoys his time with them. We envision Sailor in a home that will provide him with exercise and mental stimulation'|other dogs help that effort with play and socialization. Sailor would be overjoyed with walking (or with a view from above tucked into a back (or front pack) through the beautiful Colorado mountains. He's the perfect size to come along and would thoroughly enjoy his time with his people in the sunshine. Sailor wouldn't be content spending long hours alone'|he's far too people-oriented to be happy with that lifestyle. A retired couple or individual or a person who works from home would be great. Sailor would love the companionship and consistency of those relationships. Being just a young guy, he'd also learn that he's loved and cared for'|a lesson that results in a happy and confident adult dog. There are many, many Poodle and Bichon lovers in the dog world...they're considered to be two of the most desirable breeds available today. This is due to their consistently great temperaments and super- intelligence. There's also no question that they're strikingly beautiful with their stunning non-shedding coats (considered to be two of the most hypoallergenic breeds available today) and their soft, expressive eyes Farfel's has requested that Sailor be neutered prior to his arrival in Colorado. Since this area of New Mexico has very few vets, this may not be possible. Since Sailor will be getting cherry eye surgery shortly after his arrival in Denver, it will be a good time to neuter/microchip him as well. Farfel's will be happy to cover all costs at our vet in Denver for these procedures. Sailor will be arriving on transport in Denver on Saturday 6/16/18. Applications are currently being accepted for this extremely sweet and cuddly best friend. An application can be found at http://farfels.com/farfels-rescue/adoption-form/. If interested, please fill out and submit. **PLEASE NOTE** If you're truly interested in adopting Sailor, please be sure to fill out our adoption application. It's the only initial tool that we have to determine a great match for this very deserving guy. We're sorry, but in most cases, we're unable to get back to those that don't submit an adoption application. Thanks so much for choosing rescue. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 18-05-08-00101Eva-ADOPTION PENDING (female)

Bichon Frise Mix    Age: Senior

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Needs to be Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Eva is a dignified older lady who, In her senior years, was found on the side of a rural road in southern Texas. An animal control officer was visiting family on a hot and sticky day when he noticed a motionless fuzzy being partially in the road. When he stopped to investigate, he found Eva - overwhelmed with heat, in dire need of water..but still able to show her gratitude with a weak lick. He quickly scooped her up, provided water and gently placed her in the passenger seat. Her savior rushed Eva to the local shelter for vet assessment and care. Luck was on her side that day...our compassionate rescuer was in the shelter lobby and had the ... (Read More)pleasure of meeting Eva as she arrived. The decision took seconds...after she held her close and Eva snuggled in with so much love and trust, our rescuer knew this sweet girl was coming home with her. Farfel's was contacted hours later and we happily accepted Eva into Farfel's Rescue. Eva, at 15 lbs (such a perfect size for walks as well as lap-sitting) and approximately 9.5 years old has many healthy years left to be a full-time best friend. (Poodles and Poodle mixes often live to a very ripe old age). Eva would be such a perfect companion for anyone who is searching for that wonderful spirit in their lives. She will be by your side to hug and love on..a kind and loving being to hold close when the challenges of the world seem overwhelming. At the same time, Eva is a low-maintenance girl who also has the ability to keep herself busy (or take a nap) while her family is involved in other things. Eva's vet assessment was almost perfect. It was found that she has age-related changes in her eyes..and therefore her vision may be compromised. It was also found that she favors one back leg slightly more than another...neither of these concern Eva (or the vets) in the least! She's a happy, very, very sweet and kind girl who just wants to be a member of a family where she will be loved like crazy..and she will return that devotion a million times over. After spending time with Eva, her Texas foster is positive that this beautiful girl was loved very much at one time as she's well-adjusted with high self-esteem. She had the following to say about sweet Eva: Eva is such a sweet, super- smart and wonderful girl! My whole family loves her so much already. Eva has been great with both my dogs (like-sized to Eva). She loves very gentle kids...my neighbor's children who are 9 and 11 fell in love with her and she with them! They had so much fun watching movies and eating popcorn with Eva wedged so happily between them...such a touching scenario. Eva is very respectful of my home and has been a welcome guest! She's a quiet spirit but loves to interact (in a very positive way) with my dogs. They go into the yard, do some patrolling and then enjoy the sunshine. Then the best part ever...Eva lies close beside me on the couch with her beautiful head draped over my leg. Eva may be a bit shy initially as rehoming is challenging for any dog...but with love and nurturing, she will absolutely shine. We envision Eva with either retirees (she would be overjoyed with time spent and being at the center of a loving family) or a younger family who works at home. For those family members who enjoy neighborhood walks and time outside, Eva would love nothing more than to share the experience. Her foster loves daily walks to socialize with neighbors and Eva comes along. She is very happy for these daily outings, fascinated by the activity around her. Eva breathes in the air...so happy to be out and about. And then, maybe her favorite part, it's time to end the day with hugs, belly rubs and a warm spot close beside her beloved family members. As a Poodle/Bichon mix (or purebred Poodle), Eva is a non-shedding girl (often considered to be the most hypoallergenic breeds available today). She will therefore require a commitment to periodic grooming and great nutrition (a salmon oil supplement is excellent for lifelong coat care and longevity), to keep her coat healthy, cottony-soft and matt-free. Farfel's has requested that Eva be spayed prior to her transport to Denver. We're not optimistic that this will occur in this industrial area of Texas with many, many homeless dogs and not enough vets to care for them. It it doesn't, Farfel's is happy to cover all costs for Eva's spay/microchip if our Denver vet is used. Eva is arriving on transport in Boulder on Friday 6/1/18. Applications are currently being accepted for our sweet girl. If interested in this beautiful ...and very cuddly and loving best friend, please fill out an application at http://farfels.com/farfels-rescue/adoption-form/ and submit. PLEASE NOTE: If you're truly interested in adopting Eva, please be sure to submit our adoption application. It's the only initial tool that we have to determine a great match. We're sorry, but in most circumstances, we're unable to get back to those that don't submit an adoption application. (Less)
